Independence in the Kitchen
I wanted to share a helpful tip that I have incorporated at home for my three kids to help in the kitchen. Our townhome only has three drawers in the kitchen so I have to utilize the space very carefully. I found myself constantly taking the dishes out and setting things up for the kids. This was proving to be very difficult (especially if I was busy cooking or cleaning). I decided to organize one drawer with all of their dishes and utensils. This has allowed my three to have quick access to the dishes they need, so that they are able to help themselves. It has been amazing for the kids, as they have been enjoying their independence and do not need to rely on mama.
How I Organized the Drawer
I bought a utensil organizer from HomeSense (my favorite home store in Canada) and a plastic basket from the dollar store. Two great additions to organize a drawer. As you can see my drawer is full of steel utensils, plates and cups. I find steel dishes to be great for durability, especially when it comes to kids. Thanks to this organized drawer my kids can help themselves at anytime!
Our Success With the Drawer
My youngest (who is two and a half) is able to empty out the kids dishes from the dishwasher and place them into the drawer. This is very empowering for my daughter as she does it all by herself! She always feels so proud of herself and I love hearing her say “mama, I did it!” This organized drawer has proven to be wonderful in our home. My three children feel that they can lend a helping hand and handle things on their own. While they feel a sense of accomplishment, it also gives them confidence that they can do things independently without any assistance.
